I was actually supposed to have a video chat with Tairin last weekend to get a better look, but we didn't end up connecting. I do know that it does not run on a clutch now, unlike the earlier version that was designed around a roller clutch. Have you seen the new Tairin Mugen silent hub design? What are your thoughts? I am pretty dedicated to a silent instant engagement hub. The response from Onyx was less than stellar and I am now conflicted because I like the old Classics so much but the Vespers are leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I have the old threaded style ones and they are bomb proof. ![]() That's good to know about the Onyx Classics. Typically, you can crack open an Onyx hub a year or two into its life and it will still look like new - that has been my experience anyways. ![]() I have build many Onyx hubs, though many more Classic hubs as I prefer them to the Vespers, but I have never seen water ingress like that. Onyx tells me the underhead axles are stronger, however. This should not be the reason for the ingress of water, but I certainly preferred threaded myself because they were easier to adjust the preload on. Onyx Classic USED TO BE threaded, but now are friction. Most hubs - DT Swiss, Hope, I9 - endcaps and drivers are only held on by friction. The water would have to get through them first! I almost wonder if there was a faulty seal or insufficient grease (not the clutch grease) to keep contamination out? Were the hub bearings rusted out too? That would be a sure sign of pressure washing, and if they are good they don’t have any claim. Wow that looks terrible, I don’t know how that could happen on the aluminum portions of the hub! On the drive ring, clutch and outer ring are steel. What is good about Onyx is the concept, unfortunately the execution is shit. ![]() I take what a lot of people say on here with a pinch of salt, a lot of stuff often raved about I find to be total overpriced junk. Funny that, the 'weight weenie' wheels set is a shit load more durable, reliable and stays true. Switched to Carbon Ti hubs and carbon rims and I'm more than happy to sacrifice instant engagement and silence for a wheel set that weighs nearly 700 grams less and stays true after over a year without a hint of hub reliability issues and better spinning bearings. People raved about Onyx hubs and DT 511 rims at the time so I put the two together and ended up with a pair of boat anchors that had unreliable hubs and alloy rims that go out of true after a few months. Onyx suck, my old classics also seized to the axle due to corrosion, the sprag clutch became rubber band feeling after a few months, the rear hub weighed more than my front and rear carbon Ti hubs in total, the anodizing is really unsaturated etc etc. I am disappointed in Onyx to say the least and do not know whether to buy another classic hub or buy the new Tarrin Mugen silent hub? My current plan is to rebuild them and be meticulous not to wash the bike at all and see if the problem repeats but the issue of reliability is in my head. Sorry stuff gets wet and dirty and should be able to handle it.ģ) I have had the classic hubs and they are amazing 4 years running! Onyx customer service has also been amazing before.Ĥ) There are known issues with the hubs and I can't understand Onyx not reaching out a little more to satisfy a repeat (times 3!) customer with a new product. I submitted a warranty claim and Onyx told the shop to rebuild then and that the issue looked like I used a pressure washer.ġ) Sure I hose down the bike but on shower mode.Ģ) I live in the PNW, so its wet. For a "premium" hub that costs this much is horrendous performance and durability. The hubs were completely rusted and bearings needed replacing. Another 6 more slips and by the 15th ride I took them in. 10th ride was probably the first time the sprag clutch slipped and I thought it was just me. I rode the system 10-15 times before I took the bike in. I bought a pair of WR1 rims to Onyx Vesper hubs. ![]() ![]() Now, visitors can know his stories while enjoying ancient … At The Venue On Main, we’ll make sure the vision for your special event becomes a reality. Most felt Chevy’s decision to pull the full-size El Camino from production was due to the poor 1960 sales, while others say that Chevy was simply retooling to bring El Camino back as a Chevelle intermediate. Unlike Ford, which continued production on many platforms through 1979 and seven generations, Chevy did not make an El Camino in 1961 to 1963 fully aware of Ford’s downsizing success with its new Falcon Ranchero. An economy six at 110 horses joined the power list. The engines were similar in ’60 although the fuel injection versions were gone. The El Camino sold just 14,163 units versus the Falcon Ranchero’s 21,027 number. Ford turned the tables as they went from full size to the new, very small Falcon-based Ford Ranchero at a much lower price. The 1960 El Camino, however, completely stunned the auto world as its sales plummeted and ended up in a reversal of the prior year. Both bring very good money at the national car auctions. These engine options made the ’59 El Camino very special as the fuel injected version is very rare, as is the dual-quad 283. If that wasn’t enough, how about a 290-horse fuel injected 283? Yes, four different versions of the popular small-block. Next was a rare dual-quad two four-barrel 283 putting out 270 horsepower. ![]() The small block 283 was offered in a 185-horse two-barrel version, followed by a single four barrel at 230 horses. However, most notable for ’59 was the different 283’s a consumer could order. Numerous V8 versions were available, with the tri-power three two barrel 348 its highest power producer at 335 horses. Included were three engines including the standard 135-horse, 235-inch Stovebolt inline-6, while optional were two V8s ala the 283 small-block V8 or the powerful 348 big-block V8. Considering Ford’s first Ranchero came out in 1957 and sold well at 21,706 vehicles, it surprised everyone who followed this novel car/truck market.Īs for the engine and drivetrain combos on that first ever ’59 El Camino, there were many to choose from. Built on the 119-inch wheelbase two-door Chevy Brookwood station wagon chassis with BelAir livery outside and a Biscayne interior, Chevy surprised Ford’s ’59 Ranchero with better overall sales of 22,246 to 14,169, respectively. When introduced in 1959, Chevy’s new “half-car/half-truck” had a good first year of sales. Both the El Camino and Ranchero are classic “car/pickup” vehicles and both became more popular with collectors as the years clicked by. Then, after a three model year layoff, Chevy came back with the intermediate size El Camino from 1964 to 1987, including generations two through six. The El Camino began with its first generation that only spanned two years of 19. And I’m going to include a little bit of Ford Ranchero information as a comparison because the Ranchero was El Camino’s main competitor. Can you give some history? Thanks and any other info on the El Camino line is appreciated.Ī: Ernie, I’m happy to help. Like many cars of its era, this 1960 El Camino sports the space age, rocket-ship vibe popular in the late ’50s and early ’60s.Ĭheck out the slides above and let us know what you think.Q: Hi Greg, I read a lot about the muscle cars of the 1960s and am wondering about the history of the Chevy El Camino as it relates to drive trains and engine horsepower. For our part, we love the 1959-60 (first generation) El Camino, which was based on the Chevrolet Brookwood wagon. In fact, GM even shelved the El Camino for a few years after the 1960 model before reviving the car/truck in 1964. The Chevrolet El Camino has been based on a number of different GM configurations, including the General’s A-body and B-body platforms, but the numbers suggest the 1960 model was one of the the least popular. The distinctive Elco has made appearances in countless movies, has been featured in many magazines and blogs, including OnAllCylinders, and has been driven by some pretty famous folk -check out this list of famous El Camino owners. The Chevrolet El Camino wasn’t the first American “utility coupe” vehicle -the Ford Ranchero beat it by two years -but it is arguably the most well known. ![]() ![]() ![]() And yet, “pretty good liquid” is not why anyone buys celebrity spirits. ![]() If you have a high-enough profile and a hefty checkbook, it’s not hard to get meetings in Kentucky or Jalisco or even Slovenia, partner with distributors, and find yourself walking out the door with a contract for some pretty good liquid. He causes all kinds of problems, specifically for those who have power and need to be taken down a peg or two. When we first meet the angel Gabriel, he is going by the name of Loki and acting as a trickster god. We see something similar to this with Gabriel (and/or Loki) in the Supernatural series. Prometheus may have suffered for it, but he not only helped humanity he set an example for them on how to relate to the gods. Later Greek heroes would be hailed for using and deceiving the gods in various situations. He is considered perhaps justly punished for breaking the gods’ rules, but the point is that you don’t have to follow the rules. We could see this as a classic “don’t screw with the gods” story, but Prometheus is regarded as a hero of humanity. Since he was immortal, he lived in agony for the rest of his eternal days. He was chained to a mountain and his liver was eaten by an eagle every day. Zeus was actively trying to keep humanity weak, but Prometheus sympathized with the humans and decided to help them even if it meant going against the gods. For example, to search for a configuration in two files: $ grep Port /etc/ssh/sshd_config /etc/ssh/ssh_config To find text in multiple files simultaneously, specify which files to search from after the first file name, or use a shell wildcard such as * for all files. Similar to finding text patterns in a single file, you can use grep to find text in multiple files or directories. Find text in multiple files and directories For additional information, look at Regular expression on Wikipedia or Regular expressions 101. However, regular expressions are a huge topic. Regular expressions are a big part of grep, making it powerful and flexible. For example, to find all lines that end with none in sshd_config, use grep like this: $ grep none$ /etc/ssh/sshd_config You can also look for lines that end with a text pattern by using the $ operator. For example, to search for a pattern that contains the word Port followed by numbers, use this regular expression: $ grep -E "Port +" /etc/ssh/sshd_config You can also use extended regular expressions with the command-line parameter -E. This time grep returned only the line that started with Port since, in the second line, the expression Port is in the middle. For example, to find only lines that start with the word Port, you can use the regular expression operator ^, like this: $ grep ^Port /etc/ssh/sshd_config To avoid that, you can use regular expressions to be more specific about what you're looking for. In other cases, grep could find too many entries that you're not interested in, requiring you to sort through them to find the desired information. In some cases, that's exactly what you want. The line you were looking for, Port 22, and an additional line containing the search pattern. In the previous example, when you searched for Port in the SSH configuration file, grep returned two lines. Notice that grep finds all lines that match the text pattern regardless of where the pattern is located. For example, to find which port the Secure Shell (SSH) daemon uses, search for Port in file /etc/ssh/sshd_config: $ grep Port /etc/ssh/sshd_config To do this, type grep followed by the text pattern to search for and the file name to search in. The most basic way to use grep is searching for text in a single file. ![]() This article covers how to use the grep command to find text. Using grep, you can quickly find text matching a regular expression in a single file, a group of files, or text coming from stdin using the shell pipe operator. However, its main functionality is still the same. Grep evolved over the years, and the most common version available today for Linux, GNU grep, has additional features such as colored output. This utility was originally developed for the Unix operating system in the early 1970s. The most common way to find text in a Linux system is using the command-line utility grep.
